How to Set Up Outlook Email Client

Follow these steps to set up your email account in Microsoft Outlook.

Step 1: Open Outlook

If Outlook is already installed on your system, open the application. If you don't have it installed, you can download Outlook from Microsoft's website.

Step 2: Add a New Email Account

If this is your first time opening Outlook, it will automatically prompt you to set up an email account. If not, you can manually add a new account by going to File > Add Account.

Enter your email address and click Connect.

Step 3: Choose Account Type

Outlook will automatically detect your email settings in most cases. However, if prompted, you will need to choose between the following account types:

  • IMAP - For syncing your email across multiple devices. Always choose this for computers and cellphones.
  • POP - This is For downloading and storing your emails locally on the device. Use this for printers.

IMAP is the recommended choice for most users.

Step 4: Enter Server Information

If Outlook does not automatically configure your account, you will need to manually enter the email server settings. You can usually find this information from your email provider:

  • Incoming mail server (IMAP or POP): imap.skylightning.net
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.skylightning.net
  • Port numbers: SMTP use 465, or 587 if 465 doesn't work. IMAP=993, SSL. POP=995, SSL.

After entering the details, click Next.

Step 5: Enter Your Email Password

Outlook will now prompt you for your email password. Enter the password for the email account you're setting up, then click Connect.

Step 6: Complete Setup

Once Outlook successfully connects to your email account, it will display a confirmation message. You can now start using Outlook to send and receive emails.
